The third round of the Water Breakthrough Challenge (‘Breakthrough 3’) has approximately £38 million funding available for innovative initiatives which deliver benefits for customers, society and the environment.

In Breakthrough 3, water companies in England and Wales can bid for funding through two streams:

Water Breakthrough Challenge Catalyst Stream

Approximately £8 million is available.

Individual entries can bid for £150,000 – £2 million.

Entries closed on 8 December 2022 at 12 noon (GMT).

Water Breakthrough Challenge Transform Stream

Approximately £30 million is available.

Individual entries can bid for £2 million – £10 million. Subject to certain conditions, Ofwat are open to accepting entries requesting greater than £10 million.

The stage 1 entry period closed on 9 November 2022 at 12 Noon (GMT).
