Water Breakthrough Challenge Round 2 (Entries now closed)

The second round of the Water Breakthrough Challenge (‘Breakthrough 2’) opened on 11 October 2021. There are two streams of funding available for innovative initiatives which deliver benefits for customers, society and the environment.

In Breakthrough 2, water companies in England and Wales (including NAVs) could bid for funding through two streams:

  • Approximately £5 million is available in the Catalyst Stream for initiatives seeking funding of between £100,000 – £1 million.
  • Approximately £34 million is available in the Transform Stream for initiatives seeking funding of between £1 million – £10 million.

Entries must be submitted online via Submittable no later than 12 (noon) (GMT) on Wednesday 8 December 2021.

The Transform Stream (now closed)

Stage 1 entries must be submitted online via Submittable, no later than 12:00 (noon) (GMT) Tuesday 16 November 2021.

Entries must include a 4-minute pitch – please register to record this pitch via Zoom no later than 5pm (GMT) Friday 5 November 2021.

We will open stage 2 to invited entries at 09:00 (GMT) Wednesday 15 December 2021 and will close for entries at 12:00 (noon) (GMT) Tuesday 8 February 2021.
