Unlocking the potential of water data: Stream positioning paper

October 21, 2024

This article was guest-written by Northumbrian Water Group, lead entrant of the Stream project, awarded funding in Water Breakthrough Challenge 2 and Water Breakthrough Challenge 3

Stream is a collaboration between 16 of the 18 major UK Water Companies, with a shared vision to unlock water data to deliver value to customers, society and the environment.

Since receiving a second round of funding from the Ofwat Innovation Fund’s Water Breakthrough Challenge in July 2023, Stream has built and operationalised a new data sharing infrastructure for the sector.

Through the Stream platform, users can now easily find, access and understand data about the UK water sector, and request data to support their work if it is not yet available.

For initiatives relying on water sector data, Stream provides the community, processes and technology that can be leveraged. It also provides a collective voice for sector engagement on matters relating to data.

Stream’s data sharing infrastructure can be used as a core part of your initiative (rather than doing this on your own), or you can use it to share data generated by your research (raw data, processed data or both), to facilitate further projects and collaboration.

If you have a project that you’d like to discuss further with Stream,  you can either register to become a platform community member  and submit your project outline – often referred to as a use case –  or you can contact us via the Stream platform to request an initial conversation with a member of the Stream team.
