Supporting water-efficient communities report

August 28, 2024

Water customers play a critical role in the commercial water cycle, setting the demand for water use and service provision. As the UK water sector grapples with population growth alongside limited natural water supplies and climate change, it has never been more important to ensure that customers remain engaged and connected with their water consumption while ensuring that their water and service needs are met. Identifying how those customer needs vary and how their behaviour may be influenced to ensure water supplies remain secure requires new thinking and innovative solutions.

To date, the Ofwat Innovation Fund has awarded funding to 8 projects working to help create a more water-efficient community in different ways, bringing together partnerships from across the UK water sector – utilities, engineering firms, universities, non-governmental organisations and the private sector – to collaboratively tackle current industry challenges in supporting customers and securing water supplies across the UK.

Read this report to find out more about these projects’ learnings and challenges, as well as common learnings focused on aspects of collaboration, governance and partnership working.
