Low-cost sensing to improve understanding of storm water discharges

Amount awarded: £50,000

Led by: Water Research Centre (WRc)

Our project will develop a low-cost water sensing platform to monitor the quantity and quality of discharges from water company wastewater assets into rivers and the sea during storm events or where the asset fails due to for example a blockage.

Our concept offers an alternative to current, prohibitively expensive, monitoring options through combining the recent advances in low-cost sensing technologies and the power of Artificial Intelligence.

The final product will provide greatly improved understanding of the impact of discharges on the environment and enabling mitigation leading to improvements in the water quality within the natural environment.
