Fully Structural Spray in Place Pipe (SIPP) lining providing burst protection for high-risk sewage rising mains

Finalist Award: £50,000

Winner Award: £449,900

Led by: Resimac Limited, partnered with Schur-BPH

Our entry focuses on the development of an innovative and highly cost-effective hybrid sewer rehabilitation solution.

We will combine existing spray lining techniques with cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) technology to deliver a world first, fully structural, spray-in-place rehabilitation solution for existing deteriorating rising sewer mains.

Water sector adoption of our solution will reduce rising sewer mains bursts, improving network resilience. Associated environmental damage from escaped sewage will also be reduced.

Our fast installation process will allow water and sewer companies to rehabilitate more pipes in a shorter timeframe, reducing costs, embodied carbon and customer disruption compared with conventional pipe replacement or existing CIPP techniques.

We have commenced work to enhance our finalist’s stage (prototype) test bed equipment. This will make the process of preparing pipe samples simpler and more reliable. We have also started to produce samples for short term burst pressure testing. We are using lessons learned to continuously to improve our solution.

Resimac was announced as one of 10 winners in the Water Discovery Challenge on 20 February 2024 – read more in the announcement blog.
