Site-Agnostic AI Models for Water Quality and Safety

Amount awarded: £1,906,702

Led by: Yorkshire Water

Partners: UnifAI Technology, The Rivers Trust, British Standards Institution, Surfers Against Sewage

The project will develop an AI model for river water quality by monitoring and sampling 20 locations. The model will provide near real-time information for water-users and stakeholders. This project will expedite wider roll-out by reducing the need for localised models, offering a cost-effective solution for continuous water quality monitoring.

“This significantly reduces the time and cost of expanding continuous bacteria monitoring at scale. The solution aligns with national priorities for public health and environmental protection and enables water users to access real time information on water quality so they can safely and confidently enjoy our rivers and bathing sites.”

Faye Cossins, Coastal Delivery & Engagement Manager, Yorkshire Water
